Monologues
Classical monologue - Hermia - A Midsummer Nights Dream
I chose this monologue after I watched one of my classmates perform the original one I had which was Phebe from As You Like It. and i realised it was not for me.
I chose this monologue after I watched one of my classmates perform the original one I had which was Phebe from As You Like It. and i realised it was not for me.
This monologue is about a girl (Hermia) telling someone off for calling her short.
It is a funny monologue, she is angry and using hand gestures and shouting which makes her look like a toddler having a tantrum. I will work on this by trying to get into the headspace of someone who is really annoyed, this is definitely out of my comfort zone but o think it is a good one to use for auditions.
Contemporary monologue - I have not yet chosen a specific contemporary monologue but I am currently looking at ‘Black and White’ by Al Smith. And ‘Consensual’ by Evan Placey. I do not know if these are the monologues I will choose for my auditions but reading through them they have caught my eye.
Universities
Royal Conservatoire of Scotland -
This university is my first option. This conservatoire is the only conservatoire that offers training in their performance disciplines. You work with many different people and get to meet some Alumni which would be an incredible opportunity because meeting someone who actually knows the industry inside out would be a huge advantage into understanding how it all works and seeing different perspectives on it.
- You work on dance, music, production me film.
- I like this school because it doesn’t focus mainly on stage as I want to be a screen actor mostly.
- You can collaborate with film department.
- I also like the idea of living in Scotland.
Alumni -
- James McAvoy (Shameless UK and Xmen)
- Robert Carlyle (Once upon a time)
- David Tennant (Doctor Who and Nativity)
- Katie Leung (Harry Potter)
- Alan Cumming (Spy Kids)
- Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education)
Over all this has been my first choice for a long time and it would be amazing to get into this university.
Guildhall -
This university is third on my list. They state that their acting programme is constantly evolving to meet the demands of the 21st century. I like this because it means not only re you learning the old tricks you are also learning new tricks and skill’s constantly. Which will make me a better performer. This university is based in London so the cost of living will be pricier than others. This university is third on my list because it is still a great uni but not one I am desperate to go too.
- You work on stage and screen.
- Learning classical, contemporary and experimental repertoire.
- Based in London.
Alumni -
- Danial Craig (James Bond)
- Ewan McGregor (Christopher Robin)
- Hayley Atwell (Captain America)
- Lily James (Cinderella)
- Lesley Sharp (Fate: The Winx Saga)
- Mirren Mack (Sex Education)
Overall this university is still an incredible option and would definitely help me get into the industry.
