Year 1 Half term 5 - week 2

24/04/23 - reading Zest theatre script.

This morning we learnt etiquette, I wasn't in for this but I had people fill me in so I wasn't behind.

After this we had a zoom call with Zest theatre. We had our first read through of the script they are writing from our opinions on what going into secondary school was like. I wasn't too keen on the play but it is only the second draft so i'm excited to see the final script.

25/04/23 - Little Women auditions.

First auditions today! I'm going for the character of Amy so I chose a piece in the script that I think would show Kane and Kelly that I can do this role. The scene I chose was the part where Amy burns Jo's book. I chose this scene because I think it shows so many emotions at once and really shows how young Amy actually is. When I first did the audition Kelly asked me to re-do it with a bit more anger to show that she's annoyed she's being blamed. I think I took on this note well and showed Kelly I understood what she meant. From this audition I learnt that I need to stop doubting myself because she said my american accent was really good but I didn't believe in myself enough to know that.

After this I was asked to find someone who is going for Laurie to do chemistry read with. I paired up with Henry for this and we did the scene where Laurie is drunk and they are messing with each other. I think this went well. Henry was easy to work with and didn't make it awkward as Laurie and Amy are meant to be in love.

26/04/23 - Discussing Little Women script.

At the start of today's lesson we discussed the Little women script, talking about the new scenes being added. Then we discussed costumes, Kelly would like the sisters to have the same style dress but in five different colours.

After this we went through our etiquette scenes. Because I wasn't there when the groups were made I went with Rebecca's group. We went through the rules of etiquette and made a little scene we could show the class to teach them about etiquette. I learnt that the rules for Ladies in them days were very strict. They were not allowed to sit with their legs crossed, their feet had to be flat on the floor and hands placed quietly in their laps. They were not allowed to eat all of their food or cough at the table etc.

27/04/23 - Little Women auditions.

Second auditions today! We were asked to get into the groups of the sisters. Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. My group was Rebecca, Sophia, Jess and me. The scene we had to learn was the one where they are putting on a play. We rehearsed it for around 20 mins and showed Kelly and she asked us to work on it for a little longer so we can really understand how dramatic they have to be. We then went back and went through it again adding more drama. We showed Kelly again and she said it was much better and then let us know we would be performing it for the boys.

Before we perform it for the boys we will also be working with them for another chemistry read. I was paired with Henry again so the scene we learnt was the scene where Laurie and Amy finally admit they love each other in their own way. We did this scene by it starting off with Amy talking to him. Then him taking Amy's hand to them then hugging and Laurie telling Amy she doesn't have to cry anymore he's there for her.

After we performed our chemistry reads to the class we showed our sister scene. I really enjoyed this scene because it is a very dramatic scene so you can have fun with it. I was very proud of this scene and I was also happy because it was obvious to others that I have worked hard on this scene because I had people coming up to me saying they were finally happy to see me come out of my shell and show them what I can do.

I learnt today how important it is to have chemistry with the people your on stage with because if you don't the scenes just don't have that push to them that makes them great. It is also really important because if you don't look in love no one will believe it.
