Year 1 Half term 5 - Week 1

17/04/23 - New assignment talk and Little Women. 

Today we learnt about our new assignment task, Kelly told us this assignment is really important, and it is. This is our last assignment so this mark is going to be the one that tells us if we've passed the year or not.

After this we got separated into group of boys and girls and the boys went with Tom. Then we learnt about Little women. Going through all the girls learning about there characteristics and what the play is about. Then we got into groups of five and discussed what characters we wanted to audition for and wrote facts about them. 

We did this because it is important to know as much as you can about your character so your performance is as real as possible to show you can play that character well.

18/04/23 - Talked about auditions - 

Talked about making monologues for auditions.

Today we started off playing the chair game which was really fun as it's my favourite game so far. Then we all sat down and learnt about how the auditions are going to go, for Little Women our first audition will be next Tuesday and we need to find a monologue from the script to show Kane and Kelly. For The Last Resort, our auditions will be held next Thursday, we need to do group auditions so we will find people who also want to be in the section we want to be in and audition together.

After this we got told by Kelly that she would like us to write our own monologue for the character we would like to audition for. I would like to audition for Amy so today I went off and wrote a monologue I think would work for Amy's inner thoughts and feelings. 

I learnt from this that Amy is quite a bratty child and very defensive if she is blamed for things. this is important because it tells me what tone of voice and attitude I will need to use. 

19/04/23 - Learning american accent.

Today we learnt the american accent. At first we all got into three groups, if you can do the american accent, if your in the middle or if you cant do it at all. I went into the group of people who cant do it because I don't know how to do the american accent. 

Then we split the class in half and learnt tongue twisters. We did this in our normal accent to make sure we knew them first. After this we competed with the other group on who could say the tongue twisters better and our group won! Got to love some friendly competition.

Once we did that we got into groups of five and learnt certain letters to say in the american accent and explained how to do it for the class, then we showed the class our tongue twisters in our american accent and asked them to say it back to us.

After we had the american accent down we did a group scene in an american accent. I was with Latoya, Millie and Milly. I enjoyed this group scene because they were very supportive helping me when I was still learning the accent.

We did this because we will need this for Little Women as they are american. I learnt how important it is to learn things in steps sometimes because it is easier. 

20/04/23 - Doing scenes from The last resort.

Today we did some scenes from The last resort. 

Donkey scene - (worked with Gracie and Latoya). For this scene we decided we wanted our donkeys to be looking out of window so we used a table as a windowsill and perched our heads on them. After we performed the scene we realised we should of been more donkey like as everyone really went all out and even made donkey noises. I learnt that next time I just need to let go and not be embarrassed of anything. 

Seagull scene - (worked with Jess, Alayah and Freya). For this scene we knew seagulls flew around making lots of noise and didn't really pay attention to their surroundings. We acted this out by saying "mine,mine,mine" in a high pitched voice to make the sound annoying like seagulls. I still felt a little embarrassed pretending to be a seagull but I had learnt from the donkey scene that everyone would be being a bit silly as they are animals.
