Year 1 Half Term 2 - Week 6
5/12/22 - Last preparation for Oz
In this lesson we basically just checked EVERYTHING.
props, costumes, characters.
we made sure all props were on the prop table, all costumes were hung up and ready for the show and everyone was ready with what character they were being for the first show.
6/12/22 - Show day 1, Munchkin
ITS THE FIRST SHOW!!!!
Today is the first show for The Wizard Of Oz and i'm a munchkin.
Show one for the day - this show was a bit rocky at first especially for the munchkin part as a lot of us didn't know when to come on as a lot of the lines were missed out and we didn't have our normal cue that we rehearsed with. However the show was able to switch it around and get everything back on track and it ended with some great feedback.
Show two for the day - this show went a lot better for the munchkins part but we still didn't get the cue we were told we'd get so as a group we decided when we'd go on so it didn't look wrong. it still went a lot better as we knew where to stand now and exactly what we were meant to be doing.
I really liked performing as a munchkin and getting ready to be a munchkin because i think they just have so much personality and they are funny characters.
Second day of shows and i'm Aunt Em!
Show one for the day - I was extremely nervous for this show because i knew this is the role i was casted for, i think my part went well though. I knew what i was doing and i had the right props, i was prepared for the first scene of Aunt Em, however the last scene... not so much. i had never rehearsed the ending of the play before so i just learnt my lines and sort of went with what felt right. i don't think it looked bad but it was nerve wracking considering i had never done it before.
Show two for the day - i felt much more confident going into this role the second time around. i completely knew what i was doing and i think i did it well. i would still say i could of improved by speaking louder and projecting my voice more.
i learnt from doing this role that i actually preferred playing as a munchkin as they had more backstory to them and they were more fun. i think i liked that they got more reaction from the audience as well. Although i think this i still loved getting the chance to play aunt em and have a speaking role.
8/12/22 - Show day 3, Ozian
And were on to day three, Did someone say Ozian?
show one for the day - This was a disaster, i'm not going to lie to you. it was my first time playing as an ozian and some of us went on stage without glasses. this definitely threw us off and didn't know what to do in that moment as i had one of my cast mates look at me worried as ozians are meant to blind without their glasses. i tried to calm her down to the best of my ability without breaking character. Then when it came to the march none of us really knew what was going on as we had to rehearse it 10 minutes before we were due on stage. I think we were able to make it look as good as possible however we know for next time we need to be prepared.
show two for the day - This went much better! everyone had glasses on we knew what we were meant to do. i think messing up in the first show (although we didn't want to) showed us exactly what we had to work on. The march went well and we were able to get everything right so it all made sense.
i hated the costume for ozian as it was completely green but i loved the makeup for and thought the glasses were a really cute aspect to the ozians costumes.
