Year 1 Half term 1 - Week 3
26/09/2022 - First look at Christmas carol muppets.
In this lesson we had Tom for our first singing lesson.
We had a singing lesson because we are performing 15 minutes of Christmas carol the muppets. When I first found out we were singing I wasn't thrilled as it's not really my thing but as we started to learn the 'choreo' to the show I began to like the lesson because I could see it come together.
When we were learning the first song Tom asked us to get into groups and decide what we would do during the first section of scrooge walking past us. Me, Gracie, A'layah, Sophia and Emily H decided we would have a snowball fight. We performed this as me and Gracie walking to go Christmas shopping and the rest of the group interrupting us and starting a snowball fight. I really liked this idea as I thought it showed that before scrooge gets to us we enjoy Christmas.
27/09/2022 - Voice only acting pieces.
For this lesson we learnt about how the tone of your voice can change the meaning of a scene. To learn this Kane asked us to get into groups, I joined Callums group. The piece they had created was about the news. For this to come to life our group sat together and talked about how we want our voices to sound to create the meaning of the scene as you won't see anything.
28/09/2022 - looking back at our lonely hearts characters.
During this lesson we went back to our lonely heart characters. For this we needed to bring in a prop that would show what our characters care about the most. I brought in a folder to show that my character Mariah cared a lot about her work and is proud that she is the CEO if her business. I also brought in a packet of tobacco as u believe Maria is a heavy smoker.
After this our characters went to a mixer to meet our perfect match. For this I thought about how Mariah would get there, as my character was a glam Gran I figured she would go to this event in a Mercedes as she would have the money for this and travels in style. When Maria got to the mixer she met Phil and they planned out there date.
29/09/2022 - looking back at our copycat scene, getting scripts.
We were given complete freedom by Kelly for this lesson as she wanted us to crack on. Because of this our copycat group got together and received our scripts from the directors. As soon as I was given my script I highlighted my lines, even tho I only had one full line I knew it was still challenging for me as I had never been In front of a camera before and never worked in such a big group. After this our group rehearsed the scene making sure we understood when everyone would come in and say there lines and where they would sit/stand.
I found my part quote difficult as my character was American and I can't do an American accent. I tried really hard to learn how to do it but in the end couldn't and Tamara (one of our directors) said my normal voice would be okay as she didn't want me to get to upset. I learnt from this that in the future I need to work on my accents.
